Some ceilings just need a fresh skim over hairline cracks and old repairs. Others, often old lath and plaster, have come loose and need boarding over or replacing before they’re plastered. We also repair walls and ceilings after leaks, rewiring and building work so the patches don’t show.
We keep the mess down with dust sheets and floor protection, and every job starts with a visit and a free, no-obligation quote.
From one crack to a whole new ceiling, and the walls around it.
A new finishing coat over a sound ceiling to cover hairline cracks, old repairs and uneven patches, ready for paint.
Cracks cut out, taped where needed and filled before the ceiling is skimmed, so they’re less likely to come back.
Old lath and plaster ceilings that have come loose are boarded over or taken down and replaced with plasterboard, then skimmed.
Once the leak is fixed and the ceiling has dried out, blown or stained plaster is repaired or the damaged section replaced and skimmed.
Holes, cracks and damaged patches on walls repaired after rewiring, plumbing or a leak, and blended in so they don’t show once painted.
New coving fitted along the top of the walls for a neat line between wall and ceiling, often done at the same time as a new ceiling.

Old lath and plaster ceilings are held up by plaster keys pushed between wooden laths. Over time those keys break and the ceiling starts to sag or bulge. Cracks running across the room, a ceiling that moves when pressed gently, or plaster dust on the floor are all signs it’s coming loose.
If a ceiling is visibly bowing, keep people and furniture out from under it and get it looked at soon. A loose ceiling can usually be secured or boarded over, or taken down and replaced with plasterboard, then skimmed smooth.
Newer plasterboard ceilings tend to crack along the board joints, usually because the joints weren’t taped properly or the house has moved slightly. Those cracks can be cut out, taped and skimmed. There’s more on the causes in our guide to cracked and sagging ceilings.

Tom skim plastered two small rooms in our cottage. The work was done in a day. Tom was very polite and completed the work to a high standard. The the job was left clean and tidy. We are very happy with the work. We would use Tom again.
Brilliant lime plasterer
Tom was an absolute genius. Had a large room lime plastered. Took 3 days. They were quiet and very clean. The results were amazing. Wish I had found this company earlier and highly recommend

Often, yes. Small cracks can be cut out, filled and blended in. If there are lots of cracks or the plaster is loose, skimming or re-boarding the whole ceiling usually gives a better, longer-lasting result, and we’ll tell you which makes sense.
Only if it’s still firmly attached. If it sags, sounds hollow or moves when pressed, a skim won’t fix it. It needs to be secured, boarded over or replaced first.
Skimming the ceiling of an average room is often done in a day. Boarding over or replacing a ceiling first adds time. The new plaster then needs a few days to a week to dry before painting.
Yes, once the leak has been fixed and the ceiling has dried out. We repair or replace the damaged section and skim it so it matches the rest of the ceiling.
Ceiling work is dustier than walls, so we sheet the floor and furniture and clear up properly before we leave. It helps if you can empty the room or move things into the middle.
