Rendering Services for houses, extensions and walls

All our rendering is traditional sand and cement, whether it’s a whole house or one garden wall.

New Render

Bare brick or blockwork rendered in traditional sand and cement, giving the house a clean, even finish and a protective coat against wind and rain.

Re-rendering

Old render that is cracked, blown or heavily patched is taken off back to sound brickwork, then the wall is rendered again so it looks uniform.

Render Repairs

Cracks and blown patches cut back and re-rendered to blend with the surrounding wall, so a small problem doesn’t turn into a whole-wall job.

Extensions & New Builds

New extensions and new-build houses rendered so they finish neatly around windows and doors and tie in with the existing walls.

Garden Walls

Garden, boundary and retaining walls rendered for a tidy finish that matches the house and protects the brickwork.

Chimney Breasts

Chimney breasts and fireplace openings rendered and prepared, ready for a fire or stove to be fitted and the room to be decorated.

Why Sand and Cement render still works

Traditional sand and cement render has been used on British houses for generations. It’s hard-wearing, suits most brick and block walls, and is straightforward to repair if it’s ever damaged.

It goes on in two coats: a scratch coat that bonds to the wall, then a finishing coat. Once it has fully cured it can be painted with masonry paint in whatever colour you like.

Render needs dry, frost-free weather to go on and cure properly, so exterior work is planned around the forecast.

How We Render a wall

  1. Survey and quote

We look at the walls, check for cracks, damp and loose render, and give you a free, clear quote.

  2. Preparation

Loose or failed render is removed, the wall is cleaned and repaired, and beads go on corners and edges so the finish is straight.

  3. Scratch coat

A first coat of sand and cement render is applied and scratched so the next coat grips, then left to set.

  4. Finishing coat

The top coat is applied and finished to an even surface, and we clear up before we leave.

House Rendering FAQs

What type of render do you use?

We use traditional sand and cement render. It’s hard-wearing, suits most brick and block walls and is straightforward to repair. We don’t install silicone, acrylic or monocouche render systems.

How long does it take to render a house?

It depends on the size of the house, the state of the walls and the weather. Each coat needs time to set before the next goes on, so rendering a house front usually takes several days rather than one. We’ll give you a realistic timescale with your quote.

Can you render in winter?

Render shouldn’t go on in frost, heavy rain or strong sun, because it needs to cure slowly and evenly. We work through much of the year but plan exterior work around the forecast, and we won’t render when the conditions are wrong.

Will rendering stop damp?

Render keeps rain off the brickwork when it’s applied and maintained properly, but it won’t cure rising damp, leaking gutters or other causes of damp. We look for the cause first, and if render isn’t the answer we’ll tell you.

Can you repair my existing render?

Yes. Cracked or blown sections are cut back to sound render and patched. If most of the render has failed, re-rendering the wall is usually better value, and we’ll explain why.

Can I paint the render?

Yes. Once it has fully cured, sand and cement render can be painted with a good masonry paint. We’ll tell you how long to leave it first.

How much does rendering cost?

It depends on the size of the walls, how much preparation they need, access and scaffolding, and the finish you want. We visit, look at the job and give you a free, no-obligation quote with the work and the price set out clearly.

Does sand and cement render need maintenance?

Very little. Keep gutters and downpipes clear, repaint it with masonry paint every so often, and have any cracks repaired early so water can’t get behind the render.

Do you render houses outside Poole?

Yes. We render houses across Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Wimborne and the rest of Dorset from our base in Organford.
