Cracked Plaster
Cracks are cut out, filled and taped where needed, then skimmed over so they’re far less likely to open up again.
Plaster repairs in Poole & Dorset
Cracks, holes & blown plaster repaired properly
Damaged plaster cut back, built up and finished flush with the wall, so the repair doesn’t show once it’s painted. For homes across Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset.
Got cracked, blown or damaged plaster? Four Four Finishes repairs walls and ceilings in homes across Poole, Bournemouth and the rest of Dorset.
We repair holes and channels left after rewiring and plumbing, cracks that keep coming back, patches of blown plaster that sound hollow when you tap them, and damage left by a leak or a kitchen or bathroom refit. Each repair is built up level with the wall around it and finished smooth, so once it’s painted you can’t see where it was.
Every job starts with a visit and a free, no-obligation quote. If a repair isn’t the right answer, for example when most of a wall has failed, we’ll tell you and explain the options.
Small repairs can often be done in a day. Where a wall has lots of repairs close together, a skim over the whole wall usually gives a better finish.
Cracks are cut out, filled and taped where needed, then skimmed over so they’re far less likely to open up again.
Patches that have come away from the wall are cut back to sound edges and re-plastered flush. Large areas are better re-plastered.

A poor repair is easy to spot once the wall is painted: a raised patch, a dip, or a ring where the new plaster meets the old. It usually comes down to the repair not being built up in layers, or not being finished flush with the wall around it.
We cut back to sound plaster, fill deep areas in layers so they don’t shrink and crack, and finish the repair flat with the existing surface. Where there are lots of repairs close together, skimming the whole wall usually looks better than patching, and we’ll tell you if that’s the case.
Not sure what a crack means? Our guide to cracks in plaster walls explains which are normal and which need checking. New plaster also needs to dry before you paint, see how long plaster takes to dry.
We check the damage and the plaster around it, then give you a free, no-obligation quote.
Floors and furniture are covered before any plaster is cut back.
Loose material is cut back and the repair is built up in layers, then finished smooth and level with the wall.
We clear up before we leave and let you know when the repair will be ready to paint.

Yes. Cracks, holes and small blown patches can be repaired on their own and finished level with the wall. If there are lots of repairs close together, skimming the whole wall usually gives a better, more even result.
Tap the wall gently with your knuckles. Sound plaster gives a solid, dull sound; blown plaster sounds hollow and sometimes bulges or cracks. Small blown patches can be repaired, but large areas are usually better re-plastered.
Usually because the crack was only filled at the surface. Cutting it out, taping it where needed and skimming over it makes it much less likely to return. Wide or growing cracks can be a sign of movement and should be checked first.
It shouldn’t. We finish repairs flush with the existing wall. On walls with a lot of old patches, a full skim may be needed for an even finish, and we’ll tell you before we start.
