Cracked Render
Fine cracks are raked out and filled; wider or longer cracks are cut out and patched with new render so water can’t get in behind.
Render repairs in Poole & Dorset
Cracked or blown render repaired before it spreads
Cracked, hollow and damaged sand and cement render cut back, patched and matched to the rest of the wall, for houses, extensions and garden walls across Dorset.
Cracks in your render, or patches that sound hollow when you tap them? Four Four Finishes repairs sand and cement render on houses, extensions and garden walls across Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset.
Render keeps the weather off your brickwork, so a crack or a blown patch is worth fixing early. Once water gets in behind render it can push more of it off the wall, especially through a cold winter, and a small repair turns into a bigger one.
We cut back to sound render, patch it in sand and cement to match the thickness and texture of the wall, and leave it ready to paint. If too much of the wall has failed to patch, we’ll tell you honestly and quote for re-rendering instead.
We work with traditional sand and cement render only. For new render or a full re-render, see house rendering. Not sure why your render is cracking? Read our guide to render cracking.

Tap the render gently with the handle of a screwdriver. Sound render gives a solid knock; blown render sounds hollow. A few hollow patches or the odd crack can usually be repaired on their own.
If hollow areas run across most of the wall, cracks keep opening up, or the render is crumbling, patching becomes a false economy because the next patch fails next to the last one. Then it’s better to take the old render off and re-render the wall.
New render looks different from old until it’s painted, so plan to repaint the wall once the repairs have cured. We’ll tell you how long to leave it first.
We look at the damage and check how far it goes, then give you a free, no-obligation quote.
Render needs dry, frost-free weather to cure properly, so outside work is booked around the forecast.
Loose render is removed back to sound edges and the patch is built up in sand and cement coats, level with the wall.
Once it has cured, the repair can be painted with masonry paint so it blends in. We’ll tell you when it’s ready.

Yes, if the damage is limited to a few cracks or patches. We cut back to sound render and patch it to match. If most of the wall is hollow or crumbling, re-rendering is usually better value, and we’ll explain why.
Common causes are movement in the building, water getting in behind the render, frost, and old render that has reached the end of its life. Fine surface cracks are common; wider or growing cracks should be looked at.
Render that has come away from the wall behind it. It sounds hollow when tapped and often bulges or cracks. It needs cutting out and re-rendering, because water can collect behind it.
Fresh render is a different colour from old until it’s painted. Once the repair has cured and the wall is painted with masonry paint, it should blend in.
We work with traditional sand and cement render. We don’t install or repair silicone, acrylic or monocouche systems such as K Rend.
Only in the right conditions. Render shouldn’t go on in frost or heavy rain, so we plan outside repairs around the forecast.
